The Fertile Image I Imagem Fértil
O projeto foi desenvolvido com o auxílio de uma ferramenta computacional que usa Redes Adversariais Gerativas (GAN) ̶ um tipo de inteligência artificial ̶ para gerar imagens a partir de fotografias coletadas da internet. As redes GAN são arquiteturas algorítmicas que usam duas redes neurais, colocando uma contra a outra, para gerar dados que podem passar por informações reais, de forma que seja impossível distinguir a saída gerada das entradas reais. Embora as redes GAN possam produzir tipos infinitos de imagens, em The fertile image Henner é quem determina, por meio de um processo de seleção e refinamento, quais devem evoluir e em quais direções se transformar, estabelecendo uma colaboração entre um usuário humano e a máquina. Surgem dessa dinâmica imagens ao mesmo tempo familiares e estranhas, cujas atmosferas evocam experimentos surrealistas, que ativam nossa imaginação fértil e parecem visões de paisagens futuras idealizadas pelos próprios algoritmos computacionais.

The project was developed with the aid of a computational tool that uses Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) – a type of artificial intelligence – to generate images from photographs collected from the internet. GAN networks are algorithmic architectures that use two neural networks, pitting each other, to generate data that can imitate real information, so that it is impossible to distinguish the output generated from the actual inputs. Although GAN networks can produce infinite types of images, in “The Fertile Image”, Henner is the one who determines, through a process of selection and refinement, which images must evolve and in which direction they transform, establishing a collaboration between a human user and the machine. These dynamic images emerge at the same time familiar and strange, whose atmosphere evokes surrealistic experiments, which, activating our fertile imagination, seem to be visions of future landscapes idealized by the computational algorithms themselves.
